“Tension is who you think you should be, relaxation is who you are”
– Chinese Proverb

I have clearly not been as organised as I should be. With receipts, rolls of fabric, buttons, zips, labels and so forth, strewn all over the desk and floor, haphazard disorganisation was in evidence here this morning. As I tried to make space for Jan, the very talented pattern cutter, to take a seat, she stared and chuckled at the mess. “How did you manage this since we met 2 days ago?” After she left I stared at the chaotic mess and agreed that it shouldn’t and didn’t have to be like this. Even in my rush between appointments, all I had to do was invoke a little effort and discipline to put things away after working with them.

Unexpected events happen almost daily that could upset programmes and plans. Patience and flexibility is needed when changes occur. When rescheduling one should ask, does this need to be acted on today? Would tomorrow or next week do? Reflecting on my last two days, I realised I definitely hadn’t been asking those questions. Now I worked through my “To Do” list, prioritising things in order of importance, what had to be done this week and not necessarily in just two days.

As if on cue, I heard the ping of incoming emails. One of them was a hello note from a friend, and on it was this quote, which is so appropriate for me today and everyday, and I wanted to share it with you…

“Do you have the patience to wait until your mud settles and the water is clear?”
– Tao Te Ching

Until the next time, be kind to one another.
